Looking forward to the all-dayer I'm co-hosting on the 29th of March, and we're still on the search for bands for that one.
Unfortunately the filth was faster than us in getting to the 12 Bar Club. Occupiers evicted so no show next Saturday. Boohoo.

Volunteered Improvisi to play at the 12 Bar Club next Saturday the 7th as part of the Save Tin Pan Alley campaign. A few more details in the Facebook event here.
Playing tonight as part of The Gathering Free-Improv New Year's Variety Night 2015 at their usual spot - St Clement's Church, King Square, London, EC1V 8DA. Facebook event details here. This will be my first time with The Gathering people. Hopefully the first of many. With CFT as a guitar duo (Tom Kenworthy) at the Bohemia in Hackney on Friday, and with Improvisi at Splitting the Atom in Brighton on Sunday.
If you come along, do say hi!
Happened last week on Friday! Great to be in front of an audience with the boys after preparing and rehearsing for a while. With this kind of music (improvised), it only really counts when it's live. The feeling of being on a tightrope where anything can go beautifully... or completely wrong. And then of course how we adapt to what happens. We had a very simple recorder there to capture CFT and all the other bands. Not a fantastic recording as it's essentially the live sound, similar to what the audience will have heard. You can check it out here in Bandcamp. Still need to put some branding on that page but the music stands for itself. I'll use these recordings to get more shows in 2015. Hopefully we'll be able to hop into a studio next year and do definitive versions of these songs. Or at least as definitive as improvised music goes...
Brought to this website the practice tools I had elsewhere. Check them out:
Meanwhile, have had the first rehearsal with the Carlos Ferrao Trio. A little more info here but I expect to have lots of news about this as we have two shows booked for December to kick things off. I'm also *gulp* composing for the band... Once again thanks to the Apocalypse Jazz Unit (Rick!) for this recording. This was from our show at Arch1 a couple of weeks ago. For a change we had no drummer or bassist, and this opened up a lot of possibilities due to the lack of a solid beat/tempo. There's a lot of my playing on tracks 2, 7 and especially 8. Overall the whole album is worth listening to with instruments drifting in and out (it was that kind of night).
Ably recorded and mixed by the Apocalypse Jazz Unit (i.e. Rick Jensen) featuring me on guitar, Rick on tenor, Thomas Tronich on alto, Hywell Jones on trombone and Matt (Dave-o) on drums. I only get on stage from track 2 and then am in and out throughout. Listen and download here. |
