Having a quick round-up of playing in all the bands I'm in over the next fortnight:
Then I'm planning a sort of a band and shows lay-off as I prepare for the Summer tour with Charlie Rauh. That will be mostly solo guitar, so different material, different mindset. Might do a few solo gigs to prepare in the meantime. |

From a fairly sparse April to a very loaded May. This is what's booked:
There's also an upcoming tour in August, but nothing confirmed yet. Exciting! Playing with Xanthous next Friday at Bar 515 (515 Cambridge Heath Road).
Xanthous are a duo based around Greek mythology - each member must play a god/godess. In terms of sounds, it's all improvised music, but it doesn't have to be just noise or glitchy sounds. I'll be playing Thanatos, the god of peaceful death, so I'll go for mellow moments, funereal themes and some outbursts here and there as those that pass might do so unwillingly. Now to find a costume on eBay... Only a jam booked for April (which you definitely should go to, either to listen or play or both) so far. So there's room for a bit of learning. To that effect I'll be having weekly lessons with none other than Kevin Hufnagel! A great guitarist that's played in all sorts of different styles which is kind of my ambition, too. Really looking forward to it! Had a great (musical) time last Sunday at the Improvisi All-dayer as both a player and as audience. Played a set with Improvisi first and later it was time for CFT to come out for its second outing. The pic above shows the current CFT line up, Tom Kenworthy, Carlos Ferrao, Ollie Usiskin, Klaus Bru (l-r).
For April, we've got a jam organised at Arch1 which you are all invited to come and play or just watch. May is looking very busy already, and you can check it out in the Shows page.
Playing next Saturday with Improvisi at the Tunnels of the Arcane big gig. A whole night of entertainment! This is not a licensed gig, it's another squatting action in support of #Bohemians4Soho, Rochester Square #Autonomous Nation of Anarchist Libertarians, The Joiners Arms and others so it can last as late as people want. Secret location, I don't know it either, so call the infoline on Friday to get more info and see you there. While in Lisbon a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to record for a morning at the excellent Scratchbuilt Studios. It came out of the blue, so I had no material to speak of (and barely any guitar gear with me) but still felt I should give it a go and not miss the opportunity. The four tracks in Gerês are all live takes, improvised on the spot with no overdubs just some cropping here and there. They all have the same mood which I'm sure came from the room, the city the room is in, the time of the year, and so on. Hope you enjoy it. I'll revisit the solo format with some more preparation soon enough. |
